The Trip Begins!

. . . Kinda

Friday, the long awaited day of departure had come. Dad came home and it was time to go, but somehow six o'clock came and went, then seven o'clock, eight, and nine. By ten when we weren't ready to go still we decided to call it a night and stay in our own beds till morning. Honestly I think it was a good plan, Dad hadn't gotten more than ten hours of sleep for the last three days combined due to a craZy project at work he was trying to finish and then the car battery was giving us a bit of grief, so this is a lovely picture of Camilla and Jared looking quite ready to be done with all the packing.

We spent a lot of time figuring out how to organize the truck, wondering how to carry all the gear that we’d need but also have the things that we’d be using frequently readily accessible. Our solution was to buy drawers that stacked on the outside and left the inner truck for stuff like our backpacking gear we won’t need till the end of June.

                                                                           Sticky-afy Daddy!

I’m pretty sure that he wore those stickers for the rest of the night. I don’t know if he just forgot about them or if he found them to be quite stylish. Either way I found it slightly hilarious.

Putting up the back draws step one.

Step Two

step three

... and step four

                                                                  yeeeah, fixing the straps.

What we did instead of leave that night...
1. ate the inside of burnt pizza

2. made chocolate chip cookies

3. Got hair cuts

The next morning we hitched up the tent trailer and were ready to go. (This was also the last time I even thought about touching a blanket out side of bed!)

At last ready to set out.

Then we left at dawn, leaving the house alone to watch the sunrise.

Meals for Backpacking

Getting all packed and ready to go. In Main we will be backpacking for a week so we've gotten all the meals planned and organized out. In some crazy way I actually really love the light weight, dehydrated meals that are great for backpacking, then again everything tastes like heaven when you've been hiking all day. We also have a canoe trip planned for a week up near the Canadian border. We've got all the dry bags and gear ready to go but unfortunately we are going to have to rent canoes just because it would be a hassle to haul ours all around the states. So yep, one day closer to take off!

Saturday Before Departure

We’ve put so much prep into this trip I can hardly comprehend that Friday is the day of departure. Every day of the trip is planned and in some cases every hour of the day is scheduled out. I don’t mind so much because this way we’ll be able to see the maximum amount of places. I figure if we are going set out to see the country we had better not waste our time moseying around. I can’t wait to go! I hope we’re ready.
